This class focuses on contemporary Hungarian politics, particularly the government's move to the political right under Prime Minister Viktor Orban. It reviews key historical developments that help to understand why Hungarian society has taken a right-wing turn since at least 2010. Coverage will include Hungary under the Austrian Empire, communist Hungary, and its integration into NATO in 1999 and the European Union in 2004.
