Evaluating Continuing Care Retirement Centers (CCRCs) to Meet Your Needs

This brief presentation will offer an introduction to the world of CCRCs, the services they offer and the fee structure they use. The Hammonds (both ILR members) will discuss their anecdotal experiences in researching nine CCRCs in Virginia, North Carolina, and New York to explore the complex and diverse issues one will face in deciding which, or if, CCRCs are right for them. This brief presentation will be interactive to encourage audience questions for discussion.
Ann Hammond
Dr. Ann Hammond has a Psy.D. in clinical psychology from Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida. She spent seven years as a civilian psychologist at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, followed by 15 years in private practice with Dominion Psychiatric. Since 2016 she has been working pro-bono with The Honor Foundation coaching U.S. Special Forces fellows in their three-month transition program from military to civilian careers.
John Hammond
John Hammond has a BA and MA in Philosophy from, respectively, San Jose State University and Indiana University. He spent 16 years as a reporter and editorial page writer for Gannett newspapers in Rochester, New York and Melbourne, Florida. He worked for two years as a video-script writer for The Norfolk Naval Shipyard before serving 20 years as Training and Documentation Administrator for business processes and software systems used by US naval shipyard activities around the world.
