DUKE RILEY: O"ER THE WIDE AND PLASTIC SEA
Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art
2200 Parks Avenue, Virginia Beach
Friday, July 18, 2025
It's summer and time to enjoy our waterways. Are we responsible stewards of them? Join fellow ILR members for this first-time exhibit featuring the 20-year body of work of Duke Riley, a Boston-born, Brooklyn-based artist. His unique artistry across various mediums, including mosaics, paintings and sculptures, calls attention to the global waste pollution of our waterways. Riley uses everyday trash, some of it collected locally from our very own Virginia Beach, to highlight a pollution crisis. He combines his love of maritime history and folk inspried art to call attention to environmental concerns. Following this docent tour, lunch is optional at Bangkok Garends on First Colonial Road at Hilltop (separate checks).
