Connecting the Dots: Columbus to Jamestown, 1492 to 1607

Class - In Person & Zoom | Available (Membership Required)

If one resides in the Hampton Roads Tidewater region, they undoubtedly are aware of the National Park Service's original archeological history site and Jamestown Settlement, as well as the Jamestown Yorktown Foundation Living History Museum. Both sites are certainly worth visiting to learn more about early colonial history. When visitors arrive at the JYF Museum they generally only know about one historic date prior to 1607: 1492, when Columbus "sailed the Ocean Blue" to first arrive in the Americas. This talk will focus on the multiple Spanish, French, English, Dutch and Portuguese explorations of the Northern and Southern hemispheres that led to the establishment of the "first permanent English Colony in America" in Jamestown.
