THE RYAN RESILIENCE LAB
A Living Lab for a Warming World
Part of the Elizabeth River Project, the Ryan Resilience Lab is a multi-purpose learning lab that incorporates advanced sustainable/resilient design technologies and techniques throughout the building and site. It is a living laboratory where the general public and residential developers can see real applications of a wide variety of resilience techniques. The community can come here and take away some of these same strategies and techniques for use in their own homes or businesses. The lab features eco-friendly green roofs, pollution controls, massive cisterns, passive day lighting systems and shading - and so much more!
With sea level rise projected to overtake the facility in 30-50 years, it is built to be progressively preserved before ultimately succumbing to the river - a groundbreaking model for homeowners and developers!
ILR is fortunate to have secured a guided tour of this building and grounds. We will convene in the Conference Room of the Lab on October 3rd at 11 a.m. to gain an understanding of the facility offerings and then we will take a tour of its innovative inside and outside features.
