1776
On this day in early 1776, the American colonies were feeling the stress of not having a full say in their destiny. Their representatives to the 2nd Continental Congress would convene in Philadelphia on May 8, 1776 to discuss their plight. Those representatives were the cream of their colonies. They disagreed and fought with each other but they understood commitment and they fought affirmatively. In a little less than 2 months, a new nation would be born on July 4, 1776 with a Declaration of Independence!
Join fellow ILR members for orchestra seating to see 1776 as presented by the Virginia Musical Theatre. "Sit down, John!" Thus begins the musical with music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards. We immediately know that the founding fathers, such as John Adams, will not be treated as revered icons but as real human beings.
