The History and Politics of American Immigration Policy

Class - In Person & Zoom | Available (Membership Required)

Immigration policy touches virtually every aspect of American society. Some of immigration's consequences are abvious. Immigrants make up a large proportion of the workforce and affect the larger economy in many ways. Yet, immigration is also important in countless, less ovbious ways. Immigrants drive American higher education and innovation and are critical to the country's long term fiscal stability. In this talk, I will explain immigration politics' shifting dynamics and argue that while the tenor of the immigration debate might have changed in recent decades, immigration will continue to remain at the forefront of our politics.
