Virginia's state parks offer a ruch tapestry of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and recreational opportunities. This presentation provides an engaging overview of the Virginia State Park system, its mission, and its diverse offerings--from mountain trails to coastal marshes.
We'll take a deeper dive into two coastal gems--First Landing and False Cape State Parks--to gain insight into the following:

  • The history and development of Virginia's State Parks
  • Opportunities for recreation, education, and volunteering
  • Unique natural and cultural features of First Landing and False Cape
  • How these parks contribute to conservation and community engagement

Rachel Harrington

Rachel Harrington is currently the Chief Ranger of Visitor Experience at First Landing State Park, a position she previously held at False Cape State Park since 2022. With a background in environmental education and interpretation, she works closely with park staff and the public to promote stewardship and understanding of Virginia's natural and cultural resources. Rachel has a special passion for coastal ecosystems and enjoys connecting people of all ages to the unique landscapes of False Cape and First Landing State Parks.
