Fort Monroe's History and Its Future

What is Fort Monroe? Learn about the history with the stories and experiences of the Kikotan tribe and of the first Africans brought to Virginia, while also gaining insight into the construction of the largest stone fort in North America, the changes in the use of the fort over time, as well as the people who created lasting legacies at Fort Monroe, and what the future holds for the landscape.

Jessica Meadows

Jessica Meadows is the Education Programs Manager for Fort Monroe Authority. With experience in traditional education as a World History teacher for Henrico County Public Schools, living history interpretation and education with the San Diego Maritime Museum, and museum education at the San Diego Natural History Museum, she is creating educational program curriculum and opportunities for K-12 classes across the state and country that align with the Virginia Standards of Learning, C3 and Common Core State Standards, focusing on the interpretation of the unique and diverse history of Fort Monroe.
