John Dickinson, "Penman of the Founding"

Class - In Person & Zoom | Available (Membership Required)

Few Americans are aware of the many contributions of Founding Father and Founding Framer
John Dickinson of Delaware and Pennsylvania. In fact, whatever perception of Dickinson exists among our
populace is mostly negative; negative due to the ever-popular musical 1776, and the equally popular HBO series
John Adams, both of which vilify and marginalize the impact Dickinson had on the establishment of our republic
and the adoption of our United States Constitution. On the contrary, John Dickinson not only helped to lay the
foundation for our Independence but also provided the framework for our Articles of Confederation AND our
Constitution. How and why did he do this? Who really was John Dickinson? Why is he forgotten? This class will
examine the life and legacy of John Dickinson, the most famous Founding Father of whom you have never heard.
