Description: This will entail a captivating, docent-led museum tour that explores the Battle of Great Bridge, as well as an interactive tour of the surrounding waterways. As a continuation of learning about events that celebrate the 250th anniversary of America we will learn how the Battle of Great Bridge, December 9, 1775, played a critical role in the Revolutionary War and the subsequent creation of our great nation. It was this patriot victory that forced Lord Dunmore, British Royal Governor of Virginia, and his soldiers to evacuate and ultimately leave Virginia. As a direct result of this victory, four days after this crucial battle, The Virginia Convention adopted the first public declaration expressing a spirit of independence. How different our country might be had it not been for the Battle of Great Bridge and the significant contributions of our waterways.

WHERE: Great Bridge Battlefield Museum, 1775 Historic Way, Chesapeake, Virginia 23320

PARKING: There is plenty of free parking at the Great Bridge Battlefield Museum.

COST: $15 per person (includes docent-led tour, gratuity and Admin fee). No refunds issued after deadline date. (10/11/26)

MINIMUM: 15 people required to ensure group ticket price

CONSIDERATIONS: This is a walking, docent-led tour. Wear comfortable shoes. Depending on the weather, a tour of the surrounding waterway is included.

LUNCH: After the tour, you may want to have lunch nearby and talk about the experience. We recommend the Lockside Bar and Grill, 200 Battlefield Blvd N #13, Chesapeake, VA 23320. Lunch is at your own expense.
