Dawne Burke
Dr. Dawne Burke is an interactive, directly conversational speaker. She will integrate real-time audience
response and comedic interjection with storytelling, as she frames the various contexts associated with human
interaction. She has been invited as a keynote speaker and consultant for multiple celebrations in her region,
including George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War; Museum of the Shenandoah Valley; West
Virginia Regional History Center at WV University; and Daughters of the American Revolution. Dr. Burke is a
professor of Education and Human Development at the School of Education at Shepherd University in West
Virginia. In addition to teaching across the curriculum, she recently wrote a book titled An American Phoenix: A
History of Storer College from Slavery to Desegregation, 1865-1955,
