Founded in 1961, the Historic Santa Fe Foundation (HSFF) focuses on preserving, protecting, and promoting the diverse cultural heritage of the Santa Fe area and educating the public about Santa Fe's history and the importance of preservation. Preservation is concerned not only with architectural integrity, but with the cultural history and customs of our diverse population. It creates a sense of identity for the city and its citizens. This presentation tells the story of HSFF’s founding in the context of urban renewal and building development, the development of vision and programs over the next 50 years, and the recent shift to a more public-facing, relevant organization, including interaction with the city, state, and collaborative organizations. We will also look at education and hands-on participation for the future, involving a new generation in the deep history of northern New Mexico.
