Western Civilization: Scientific Revolution with Carol McCavitt (Wednesday Hybrid) Fall 2026
Hybrid (inperson & Zoom) | Available (Membership Required)
The same class is presented on Tuesday in person only.
This semester we’ll be turning back the hands of time to the late 16th and 17th centuries when science became modern. With the birth of the scientific method and the institutionalization of scientific thought remarkable strides were made in the mathematical sciences like physics and astronomy. Scientists like Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo and Newton will unlock the natural laws governing the universe and man will start to perceive of a time when man could control nature for the benefit of mankind.
- Participants are encouraged to find an older copy of R.R. Palmer’s textbook A History of the Modern World. Copies printed in 2007 to 2012 can be purchased online for less than $20. While the book is not a requirement, it can add to your experience.
