Not for Piano: Keyboard Music for Predecessors of the Modern Piano

Pianists commonly borrow music not originally written for the modern piano. In this quarter, we will explore music written for keyboard in the Baroque period, focusing on the unique aspects of the Baroque's three most important keyboard composers - George Frideric Handel, Domenico Scarlatti, and Johann Sebastian Bach.
This class includes a performance component. Dr. Savage will play pieces we discuss each week.

Jeff Savage
Jeffrey Savage is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Piano and Keybord Area Coordinator for the Conservatory at UMKC. He is active internationally as both soloist and chamber musician and has been praised as “fearless” (Straits Times, Singapore), “joyful and inspiring” (American Record Guide), and “breathtaking” (Navona/PARMA). Recent performances include China’s Wuhan Conservatory (Liszt’s Totentanz), premieres of Daniel Ott’s Fantasy on a Falling Line in New York and Vietnam, and broadcasts on national NPR stations.
