S.A.V.E. Eco-Tour: Hidden Lake Gardens

Trip | Registration opens 5/15/2026 8:58 AM EDT

Join us for a special tour of Hidden Lake Gardens in Tipton, MI, co-organized by the Science Alliance for Valuing the Environment. Located in the scenic Irish Hills of Southeast Michigan, Hidden Lake Gardens is a 755-acre botanical garden that provides visitors with 12 miles of hiking trails, a conservatory, arboretum, bonsai garden, canopy walk, and more. It is owned by Michigan State University and has a mission to connect, inspire, and engage people with the beauty of plants and the wonder of our natural world.

Upon arrival, attendees will be welcome to explore the Visitor’s Center and/or conservatory on foot before taking a bus tour of the arboretum with the Managing Director of the gardens, Paul Pfeifer. Paul’s oversight of the gardens incorporates curating the arboretum and plant collections. He has been involved in public and ornamental horticulture for over 30 years.

After our tour of the gardens, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at local favorite, Danley’s Country House. The restaurant was established in 1966 and is currently operated by a third-generation owner. Our menu will feature a delectable selection of handhelds, hearty salads, meatloaf, and more. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets can also be accommodated.
