Living in Northwest Ohio, the Natives of the Maumee Valley relied on the land's resources for survival. Learn about trading, clothing and other aspects of daily life and culture of the 1790s Maumee Valley.

Dr. Shannon Hughes has worked with Metroparks Toledo for 20 years and is the Director of Education and Programming as well as Metroparks’ Historian, responsible for a staff of 50 and interpretive programming for over 150,000 visitors district-wide. She holds a Bachelor’s of Arts from Hiram College and a Master’s in Public Administration as well as a Doctorate in Leadership and Policy Studies in Human Development from BGSU. She also is a Certified Interpretive Planner and a Certified Interpretive Trainer through the National Association of Interpretation and is a Certified National Geographic Educator. She was also a recipient of the 20 Under 40 Leadership Award in 2022.
