The Canadian Rockies - spanning Alberta and British Columbia - form a world-renowned UNESCO World Heritage site. Famous for jagged, ice-capped peaks (the highest at 12,972 feet) and vibrant turquoise lakes, this wilderness destination offers hiking, wildlife viewing, and scenic drives. The Canadian Rockies are overall more jagged than the American Rockies as they have been more heavily glaciated, resulting in sharply pointed mountains separated by wide, U-shaped valleys. They are home to five national parks – Waterton Lakes, Banff, Jasper, Yoho, and Kootenay. The major route through these mountains was selected in the 1880s for the transcontinental Canadian Pacific Railway and is now also used by the Trans-Canada Highway. The Icefields Parkway, frequently ranked as one of the most scenic drives in the world, is a 144-mile highway that connects Banff and Jasper. Join us as we traverse this region by car, and also for four days onboard the luxurious Rocky Mountaineer for a Canadian Rockies Circle Journey.
