In the Spirit of St. Francis: Getting to Know Local Owls!
Class | Registration opens 8/31/2026 8:58 AM EDT
Registration deadline: Nov. 5th
Associated with all sorts of folklore, these fascinating and beautiful creatures play an essential role in our local ecosystems. This on-campus, outdoor walk will feature our three, local resident owl species: Eastern Screech Owl, Barred Owl, and Great-horned Owl.
Join Kim High of Nature By High for a deep dive of amazing facts about each of these as we walk the grounds from sunset to darkness to see if we can call any in!
Kim has been guiding and teaching interpretive naturalist programming in Northwest Ohio for decades. She retired from her 40-year career at Metroparks Toledo as Master Interpreter in 2023. She was trained by the National Association for Interpretation to certify Metroparks naturalists, volunteers and staff as guides and hosts throughout much of her time there. She also taught annual interpretive naturalist classes to students at both the University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University for over twenty years each as a part-time faculty. In addition to her specialty of nature interpretation, Kim is a Certified Forest Therapy Guide, a trained herbalist and a Reiki Master. She is committed to her own self-practice of all three of these wellness disciplines while blending them into her work at Nature By High-- a project she developed following her retirement.
