Fern Frenzy
Volunteer Opportunity | Registration opens 8/31/2026 8:58 AM EDT
Registration deadline: Oct. 1st
The Sylvania Franciscans campus is home to an abundance of ferns that have thrived in one area and are now ready to be shared with other parts of the property. Together, we will carefully transplant ferns from a densely populated area to locations with bare soil, where they can establish new roots, stabilize the ground, help prevent erosion, and create healthy habitat for wildlife. By relocating these plants rather than removing them, we are working with nature and making the most of the resources already present on campus.
This is a wonderful opportunity to spend time outdoors, connect with others, and contribute to the ecological stewardship of our campus.
We will meet in front of Queen of Peace chapel, then walk to the area where we will be working.
The Queen of Peace chapel is Building 16 on the campus map here.
- Gloves and tools will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothing, sturdy shoes, and be prepared for light digging and bending.
If weather conditions are unfavorable, participants will be notified of an alternate date. Should that happen, our Sustainability Coordinator, Sara Grunberg, will reach out to registered volunteers directly.
