Honeysuckle Removal and Tree Planting
Volunteer Opportunity | Registration opens 8/31/2026 8:58 AM EDT
Registration deadline: Oct. 15th
Join us in restoring the woodlands of the Sisters of St. Francis campus. Honeysuckle dominates the forest understory, which restricts other native species to thrive. In order to give space for natives to flourish, we will cut back the honeysuckle and replace it with native trees. By removing honeysuckle and planting native tree species, volunteers will help create healthier, more diverse forests that support birds, pollinators, and other wildlife while improving the long-term ecological health of the campus.
Volunteers will assist with cutting and removing invasive honeysuckle, transporting brush, and planting native trees. Tools and gloves will be provided. Together, we can help restore this landscape in a way that reflects our commitment to ecological stewardship.
We will meet at the Grateful Harvest Community Garden, then walk to the forest where we will be working.
Come Prepared:
Gloves and tools will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothing, sturdy shoes, and be prepared for light digging and bending.
Weather:
If weather conditions are unfavorable, participants will be notified of an alternate date. Should that happen, our Sustainability Coordinator, Sara Grunberg, will reach out to registered volunteers directly.

The Grateful Harvest Community Garden is a welcoming, hands-on space where gardeners of all experience levels—and those simply eager to learn—can come together to grow fresh, healthy food. Rooted in community and care for the earth, the garden invites everyone to participate, learn, and share in the joy of cultivating the land. All produce grown in the garden is shared with the Sisters’ ministries as well as Food for Thought, helping nourish our neighbors and strengthen our shared commitment to feeding the wider community.
The garden is maintained on a weekly basis with the help of volunteers. Weeding and harvesting take place during this allotted time, and we kindly ask that produce not be harvested outside of the workdays to ensure we have enough to donate to our ministries and Food for Thought.
